Visit New Philadelphia
New Philadelphia, Illinois, is easy to visit, and you can get directions here.
The high-ground site was a destination for Native Americans long before Frank McWorter bought the land and founded the town in 1836. Local landowner Larry Armstead collected three 1800s-era cabins and reconstructed them on foundations that were original to New Philadelphia. At the Kiosk (1 in the photo below) are seating and informational signs. Just south (2) is the augmented reality tour. And (3) is the Burdick House used for meetings and events, with a splendid magnolia tree blooming each spring. It’s a remarkable place to learn about the long arc of freedom in the United States.
