Free Frank Freedom Day, Sept. 13

The New Philadelphia Association cordially invites you to attend Free Frank Freedom Day, an inspiring community event celebrating the historic achievement of Free Frank McWorter, who purchased his freedom and founded New Philadelphia, the first town in the United States platted and legally registered by an African American. The event will take place on Saturday, September 13, 2025, at 4:00 p.m. at the New Philadelphia National Historic Site.

This year’s celebration carries the theme: “A Blueprint for True American Democracy: The Legacy of Free Frank McWorter.” Through music, reflections, and a keynote address by Hannibal Historian, Faye Dant. The program will underscore the ideals of freedom, community, and civic engagement, illustrating how McWorter’s story serves as a model for democratic principles in action.

The event provides an opportunity to connect with descendants, learn about New Philadelphia’s history, and engage with ongoing preservation efforts.
