New Philadelphia featured on “Indiana Jones Myth, Reality and 21st Century Archaeology”

Dr. Fennell, a co-director of the New Philadelphia archaeology project, participated in a discussion with National Park Service representatives Tom Gibney and Tara Pettit, leaders of the recent special resources study of the site. Dr, Fennell explained that at New Philadelphia state-of-the-art technology, such as Lidar and thermal analysis complimented traditional archaeological excavation methods to increase our knowledge of below surface resources while limiting disturbance of the site’s high degree of archaeological integrity. Tara Pettit and Tom Gibney discussed the process of evaluating sites for inclusion in the National Park System and New Philadelphia’s qualifications for inclusion.
